Place Profile
The Sumac Centre is a vibrant volunteer-run social and community space based in Forest Fields, Nottingham. Established in 2001, it continues the legacy of the Rainbow Centre (founded in 1984) and has long served as a hub for activism, creativity, and grassroots community-building. Whether you’re dropping in for Sunday Brunch (running without pause since March 2020), enjoying live music or a film screening, or attending a fundraising meal at People’s Kitchen, the Sumac Centre offers a welcoming, inclusive environment for all.
Entirely self-managed and collectively run, the Sumac supports projects focused on social justice, environmental action, peace, and animal rights. It’s home to groups like Nottingham Green Festival, Nottingham Animal Rights, and Veggies Catering Campaign. The space is also available for hire and is regularly used for community events, meetings, and skill-sharing workshops. Check out the Events Diary, join the Facebook group, or sign up to the mailing list to stay updated. Visitors are encouraged to get involved—Sumac is a DIY space where everyone has a voice.
